You will gain skills using Windows NT operating system. Your "hands-on" training will prepare you for entry-level employment in a high-demand profession! This program will prepare you to: install, configure, maintain, and trouble shoot local area networks, wide area networks and intranets, use DOS and Windows based network operating systems. Computer Networking Engineering Technology and Computer Networking Technology offers a program of full-time study leading to an associate degree at most campuses. The program provides comprehensive training in computer networking. Upon completion of the program, each student will be able to, at an entry-level skill, install configure, maintain, and troubleshoot local area networks, wide area networks, intranets and inter-networks, which use DOS- and Windows-based network operating systems. The curriculum begins with an in-depth study of a current client operating system and a major suite of applications. Later, the student will study the hardware architecture of the microcomputer in order to fully understand the place of the client workstation in today's networking environment. The student will also learn networking technology, beginning with a focus on local area networks, then ending with an emphasis on enterprise-level networks. Throughout the program, students will learn to install, configure, and maintain current network operating systems, such as those produced by Microsoft Corporation. Due to the importance of the Internet, students will also learn basic operations of the UNIX operating system, using Linux as a vehicle. The program will tie together various network operating systems via routers and gateways, allowing different operating systems to interoperate. At the conclusion of this program, graduates will be able to accept entry-level positions with organizations providing networking services.
