Computer drafting and design is a new way to produce drawings in a traditional design and drafting fields. This program of study combines, when appropriate, computer-aided drafting with conventional methods of graphic communication to solve drafting and basic design-related problems. This program can help graduates prepare for careers in entry-level positions in a variety of fields involving drafting and design. Students will be exposed to both classroom theory and laboratory drafting projects. Students are introduced to hardware and software which are used in CAD drawing systems. Plus they examine architectural drafting, engineering graphics and civil drafting. Thy also receive instruction in areas such as 3-D modeling and project planning. The goal of the Computer Drafting and Design program of study is to help the student acquire the skills to enter the workplace as a versatile draftsperson capable of making basic design decisions and addressing future technological advances in the drafting and design profession. What It Means To You: Industry requires drafters who can translate ideas, sketches and specifications of an engineer, architect or designer into complete and accurate working plans for products, engineering projects and structures. Graduates of this program of study will have the credential that can help them begin their careers in a variety of entry-level positions in various fields utilizing drafting and design, some of which include mechanical drafting, piping drafting, architectural drafting, civil drafting, technical illustration and basic design detailing.
